So, from what I am seeing from everyone who has posted so far:
1. I plan on using DOT 4 brake fluid.
2. I can do this without using a brake bleeder/vacuum pump. The only reason I was thinking of buying one was that I thought it would:
a. make the process easier
b. reduce the possibility of me screwing up and getting airin the brake line or spilling brake fluid as the brake lever is depressed
3. If I decide to use a brake bleeder, don't get one at JCWhitney.
So, is the "brake pumping" method as effective as using a brake bleeder?
